Program:
San Gorgonio Wilderness Association: Preserving and Educating Our Local Wilderness
Retired Air Force Lt. Col. Edgar (John) Flippin worked as an auditor for two years (1967-1987) at the former Norton Air Force base. Upon retirement, he started his own home maintenance business and volunteered with Forest Service under the non-profit San Gorgonio Wilderness Association doing many day and night patrols among other activities with the group. Following several years of volunteering and sitting on the association board of directors, John took the opportunity to serve as the paid program coordinator for 15 years before stepping down to pursue other interests and return to the volunteering part of the association. He enjoys staying active with the trail maintenance department of the SGWA’s volunteer program among other volunteer opportunities throughout the year. John was recognized in 2016 for his 30 years of loyal service to the organization. John is happy to share about the many facets of our local San Gorgonio wilderness and SGWA’s mission through a Power Point presentation and display of equipment. His presentation included:
• Wilderness location,
• Common Floral and Fauna,
• Burned area background and update,
• … and overview of the SGWA organization and mission
President Flippin, along with his sister and friends, also served as volunteers with SGWA, especially the “Trail Mix” trail Maintenance crew from 1992 – 1996.

FYI Compatriots,
I have located a Rev War. Drill manual (adopted by Congress in 1779) that is consistent with what I learned from Will Langford and John Ford, which they had gotten from Chuck Lampman and Don Moran.
The linked manual contains most of the commands, with the only exception being with regard to the carrying of flags, which only has a few items (not nearly so complicated as carrying a firelock).
The manual is a complete document, with many items that will not pertain to us, which I have set to gray, versus black, which may pertain to us. Please review this ahead of Sunday. I am thinking to print copies as well.
