High School Oration Contest
Joseph S. Rumbaugh Historical Oration
Contest is for 9th, 10th, 11th, & 12th grade students.
This contest is for an original speech of 5 to 6 minutes in length.
The subject of the speech shall deal with:
an event, personality, or a document pertaining to the American Revolutionary War and show a relationship to America today.
The Joseph S. Rumbaugh Historical Oration Contest is sponsored by the
Sons of the American Revolution (SAR)
- To support historical research in high schools by promoting oratorical presentations related to our Revolutionary War period 1750-1800.
- To emphasize American History to the high school student and focus on an intelligent relationship between the past and the present.
- To place a positive emphasis on the plans of our founding fathers.
Rather than hosting a traditional live speech contest, the California Society, Sons of the American Revolution will be accepting entries for the Oration Contest utilizing digital video technology.
Prizes and Awards:
National Winners:
1st - $4,000
2nd - $2,000
3rd - $1,000
California Society Winner:
$750
Prizes for local contests vary by SAR Chapter
The deadline for this contest is February 15, 2025.
Oration packets have to be submitted to The Redlands SAR Chapter by this date.
